Cultural competency training

We all have MAGIC POWERS to communicate across cultures but not all of us know how to use it.

Cultural Skills Academy builds and cultivates cultural competency that helps women to progress in their careers either going abroad or managing the multinational teams on the native soil.

Cultural agility is crucial for developing modern day leaders and contributes directly to success of internationally set projects and organisations. Strong cultural competency of women develops national economies, builds countries wealth, and propels individual careers.

WHAT DRIVES MY PASSION FOR CULTURAL COMPETENCE?

I studied the foreign languages since an early age. By the age of 15 I was in full speed to complete of French, German, Russian, Polish and Latin languages. I grew up understanding everyone regardless of who they were and where they came from. Before I celebrated twenty first birthday, I started to learn three other languages.

Once I graduated, I started to look for the suitable employment involving linguistics and I ended up overseas perfecting English in the UK. Studying languages overseas I usually was on my own and could fully immerse myself in the local culture. When I arrived in the UK, it has been noticed that I felt like a "fish in a water" which surprised my co-workers and employers alike. Then I started to move up the employment ladder by changing jobs and being promoted. In 2006 I have noticed that I am still on my own being the only foreigner at work and started asking myself why.

The first conclusion was that people were afraid to apply for more senior positions and some just felt that they did not fit. Me on the other side would go for any interview and felt comfortable anywhere. I started to question what is going on and during few conversations and after checking the statistics it became apparent that people are not being employed according their qualifications and if they were they were rarely promoted and if it happened it was only to manage groups of workers of same origins. Many of those people were professionals who struggled to make overseas their home and despite the best efforts could not get on the career ladder they wanted because of the existing cultural barriers.

Taking them down become mission. I decided to be involved in any action that could change that and the first idea was to coach people on how to fit better in foreign cultures. Today I help people to develop cultural competence to adapt better to new working and social situations.
